Homegrown
Hydroponics Orchid Cultivation
Machine is in the News!
"Orchid Cultivation Has Taken a Giant Leap Forward
Technologically, and Enters the 21st Century.
 |
|
Technology has finally caught up with nature's most beautiful, and
diverse flower -- the orchid. Homegrown Hydroponics "The Orchid
Cultivator" uses ground breaking technology to catapult orchid
cultivation into the 21st century. |
Ft. Lauderdale, FL (PRWEB) February 14, 2006 - (http://orchidcultivator.com)
Technology has finally caught up with one of the world's most
beautiful and delicate flowers, the orchid. In bloom these
magnificent flowers show off nature's powers at its finest. These
colorful specimens can be found growing on every continent of the
world, thanks to modern day green thumbs, who treasure the orchid
above any other flower. The range of species of orchid is diverse,
just like the people that grow them. But most people would agree
they are fantastic works of art no matter what color or shape. The
flower has no prejudice, and is appreciated for it's delicate form
no matter where it grows.
| For at least the last one hundred years,
farmers, professionals, and hobbyists have been drawn to the
orchids rare beauty. A primordial urge to raise these
flowers stirs inside a chosen few. The orchid is a delicate
creation that needs love, caring, and overall most
importantly, exactly the right conditions to grow. To hot
and you have a wilting flower. Too cold it shrivels and
dies. |
|
 |
Too much light
and the plant gets sick. To little, and the growth is stunted. It's
not easy to raise a rare orchid in nature. Conditionals could not be
controlled 100% (not even in greenhouses), and huge crops suffered.
At least not until now!
| That's where Homegrown Hydroponics of Ft.
Lauderdale Florida plays their part. They have introduced
the most powerful, state of the art orchid cultivation
device ever. Called simply the "Orchid Cultivator" this
sleek looking machine packs new hydroponic growing
technology into a small grow box, only recently developed in
the last couple of years. This technology is ultrasonic
aeroponic foggers, and they are now at an affordable level
for mainstream hobbyists. But more on this later. The Orchid
Cultivator machine is capable of producing any environment
the grower wishes, with the turning of some knobs, and the
adjusting of timers. Now no more heat spells, droughts, or
pre-mature winter cold. |
|

Homegrown Hydroponics Orchid
Cultivator |
Now it can be spring all year round. The humidity
can be just right. Same with the temperature. Your orchids can
thrive. It never gets too cold, or too hot. The sun can stay up for
a few hours longer in the evening, providing additional growing time
for the delicate orchid. You see, nature's wonder is now simulated
with a myriad of bulbs, fans and technologically gadgetry all
working in unison that takes over where nature left off. Dare we say
even improved upon it? Or at least, gives the orchid exactly what is
needs to flourish.
 |
|
So you ask, what exactly is an ultrasonic
fogger? This ground breaking technology was pioneered by an
experimental few greenhouses, a select few with a vision of
a different way to grow plants. A better way. Thanks to
companies like Nutramist. This technology uses a device that
vibrates up to 2 million times a second. |
It is placed in the orchid's hydroponic
reservoir along with the roots. It floats at the surface of the
hydroponic solution, and emits a fine fog. The fog consists of
millions of microscopic water molecules that are only 3-5 microns in
size. At this small size, a nutrient droplet can pass directly into
the orchids root system, without the need to be absorbed. The root
mass is continuously surrounded by a layer of nutrient fog, which
delivers vitamins and minerals to the growing plants in a way that
no one has done before.
In just a few weeks, hundreds of thousands of tiny little hairs
develop across the orchid's root structure, looking for, seeking
nutrients, where they are effortlessly absorbed. The result? A
magnificent bloom of reds, orange, yellow and white in record time.
Orchids can grow up to ten times faster in hydroponics than in soil.
The conditions can be set according to specie and genre of flower.
No need to get your hands dirty digging up soil. Hydroponics is
clean and precise.
| For advanced gardeners, Co2 can be
introduced into the environment as well , which will further
supplement the natural amount already found in the air. By
increasing levels of co2, green plants can utilize built up
energy they have stored internally, but can not use because
of lack of light. In an orchid growing machine for instance,
there is enough light, and nutrients, to fully utilize the extra co2
pumped into the environment, to sky rocket plant growth. |
|
 |
Put simply, it's never been easier to grow your
own orchids, all year round than it is today, with giant leaps
forward in orchid growing technology, thanks to industry leaders
like Homegrown Hydroponics. For further information log-on to

Bulb Guard & Vertical Floros +
Complete Ultrasonic Fogging Hydroponic System
Ease of Use; Growing Orchids Can be Easy
The orchid flowering system is the most user-friendly,
full flowering machine on the market. It’s run by easy to use, fully
programmable timers that allow you to grow type of orchid according to
your own personal schedule. Watch your flowers thrive in these
turnkey-systems. Anyone can grow in these. It's easy! And FASTer!
Immense Grow Area for Flowering Plants
The Orchid Grow Cabinet's Vegetating Chamber is
designed to maximize yields while taking up minimal space in your
house. Because most orchids only grow less than 3 feet, you have the
perfect amount of vertical flowering space for your delicate
beauties.

Included High Intensity
Florescent Grow Light
Now Available as Standard Equipment on the Orchid Flower Cultivator.
Research has shown orchids like to grow in
shaded areas, and do not require as much light as other types of
plants. They prefer a slightly cooler environment, and in-direct
sunlight. This is shown as they grow naturally in trees in nature.
For this reason, we ship the orchid cultivation machine with a cool
running florescent grow light system, as to not harm the gentle
structure of the orchid flower with too much light...
 |
|
Using a Florescent bulb produces a cooler light spectrum
(blue), as well as lower external surface temperature of the
bulb itself. This allows your orchids to come in closer
proximity to the bulb. Most plants can be trained to grow
around the bulb using traditional training techniques, which
actually helps to increase crop yields. |
| New in version 2.0 of the orchid cultivator is the addition of dual florescent
light fixtures mounted to both the left and the right side
walls; vertically. These power fluorescents provide a cool spectrum to
supplement the warm spectrum of the high pressure sodium
bulb. By this addition, you have a fuller, more complete
spectrum for all stages of plant growth. However, these
fluorescents can also be used on their own to start seeds
and clones when the HPS is too powerful. IE: Early growth
for very young orchids. In addition, the fluorescents can
reach parts of your plants normally covered in shadows due
to their vertical orientation to the plants. |
|
 |
Optional Air Cooled 400w HPS w/ Inline Duct Fan & Hosing
Now
Available as an Option for Orchid Cultivation.
This unit can be shipped with a
Hydrofarm Daystar Reflector
& 400 watt growing bulb,
in place of the standard "open" HPS
bulb with some benefits...
 |
|
This is the high-end option for serious growth, and
maximum yields! Upgrade your light from 175w to 400w HPS;
twice the flowering power! Your HID light will be enclosed
in glass, and cooled by an in-line duct fan. |
Cool air will be drawn from one side of the cabinet, and exhaled on
the other side. The hot air NEVER comes in contact with your
delicate orchids.
This has the added advantage of being able to run an extremely
powerful light, in a small confined space, & still maintain an ideal
growing temperature. Plants can actually make contact with the
glass, and not burn. You have the best of both worlds. Super bright
light, and little heat build up.
If you select this option, your
Daystar 400 will come pre-mounted, and your grow cabinet will also
come with an extra inline fan to cool the light, and HVAC tubing.
Note that the tubes may be slightly visible on either side of the
cabinet.
High Performance
Cooling To Keep
Your Orchids Cool!!
 |
|
There is a 125 CFM intake (duct) type fan located
directly behind the growing reservoir, for cooling effects
on your orchids. The cool air is sucked in from behind the
cabinet, and creates a gentle breeze over your flowers,
strengthening their stems, while keeping them cool and
beautiful. |
Mounted directly above your HPS bulb socket is a reflective metal, batwing shaped reflector for maximum light concentration on your garden.
| Directly behind the HID light, and mounted to the
ceiling is a 120 CFM ball bearing, quiet exhaust fan, which
keeps your Orchid Grow Cabinet cool, and well ventilated. Hot
air will rise to the top of the orchid cultivator machine, and is vented
out and away from your grow area. |
|
 |

A High Powered Exhaust Fan & HID
Socket in the Orchid Growing Machine
 |
|
The spinning blade is beautifully framed by a white
plastic mesh guard, and protects the fan from alien objects
entering it, while powered on. The powerful and quiet
exhaust fan also ventilates, and keeps your light ballast
cool; located directly below, and mounted on the back wall
of the grow cabinet - in a secure electrical box. |
Optional
Co2 Kit Can Increase Flowering by 40%
Now
Available as an Option for Experienced Orchid Growers.
This unit can be shipped with a Co2 system with some benefits...
Carbon Dioxide Enrichment will dramatically increase
the growth of green plants. Green plants use carbon dioxide ( CO2 )
and water in the presence of light to synthesize organic compounds.
The plant then converts these organic compounds into elements that
it can use (food). This process is called photosynthesis. If any of
these ingredients ( CO2, water or light ) are at levels below what
the plant can use for maximum efficiency, it will only be able to
perform at that level and no greater. Adding carbon dioxide to a
growing environment that is not receiving proper nutrients or is low
on light will not produce the desired results. Similarly, plants
that are receiving plenty of sunshine and nutrients will only
perform as well as the ambient level of CO2 will allow. The ambient
level of CO2 in the earth's atmosphere is generally between 300 and
600 ppm. Most plants receive far more water and energy in the form
of sunshine than they can use. Increasing the CO2 in the growing
area will let the plant use the excess water and energy that is
stored in the leaves. The result is a substantial increase in the
growth rate of any plant that uses chlorophyll in the process of
photosynthesis. Enrichment should commence at sunrise or when
photoperiod begins and refrain during darkness hours. The average
CO2 level that is recommended is 1000 to 2000 parts per million
(PPM).
|

Tank not included |
|
These CO2 Enrichment Systems feature an accurate, easy
to adjust CO2 flow meter, a preset regulator that never
needs adjusting, a solenoid valve and complete instructions.
This Hydrofarm CO² Injection System attaches to any standard
CO² tank (available at any welding or beverage supply store)
and includes a timer, regulator, solenoid, and a flow gauge.
Includes CO² tubing with holes, and is pre-mounted to the
interior ceiling of your orchid growing chamber.
Utilizing the Drip Ring Method a nylon "T" ring is mounted
to the ceiling of the growing environment with tubing that
disperses CO2 evenly as it drops evenly down over the
garden! |
The included timer can be used to set the intervals
that the co2 will be released at, and it allows you to turn off c02
during the "night" period, when it is not needed.

System Included!!
| The Orchid Growing Machine v.2.0 ships standard with a 8 plant
DWC bubbling hydroponic system, powered by a powerful dual
output air pump to oxygenate your hydroponic solution,
combined with an ultrasonic fogger. Grow
more orchids in this updated version! |
|
 |
 |
|
Two 10" air stones are mounted directly below the grow
sites, keeping the solution aerated, and providing a maximum
amount of oxygen to the root system. We use 3" round net
baskets, filled with sterilized Hydroton Rocks as a
versatile growing medium for your flowers. |
Included
Ultrasonic Fogger System
Now Available as a Standard Feature on this Hydroponic
Orchid Flowering System.
This unit is shipped with an ultrasonic
fogger system
in addition to the DWC system with some huge benefits...
An Aeroponic fogger / hydroponic fogger operates by
oscillating at a frequency of approximately 2 MHZ which is two
million vibrations per second. At this frequency, water is nebulized
into a cold fog / dry fog which can support the needs of orchids
using an ultra low volume of water and nutrients.
A benefit of our Aeroponic fogger is that it
generates extremely small micro droplets that averages only 4
microns, which is small enough to be absorbed by roots and leaves on
contact, which is why it can be effective using only an ultra low
volume of solution. In fact, most orchid growers report optimal results
with only half the concentration of nutrient solution they've used
in the past!
|

An Ultrasonic fogger in
action.
The latest and greatest in hydroponic technology from
Nutramist! |
|
These ultrasonic foggers are the ultimate
aid to orchid propagation and production as they can be used to
create the perfect environment below "ground level" for
orchids to grow. This is the ultimate in hydroponic
technology -- cutting edge stuff!! Amazing plant growth with
these.
These Aeroponic foggers offer the exclusive benefit
of having Teflon coated ultrasonic transducers, specifically
designed for use with dissolved nutrient solutions, so they
help prevent salt buildup which causes premature failure. |
Ultrasonic foggers will also sterilize your nutrient
solution so adding live bacterial cultures will serve no purpose
since the fogger is already sterilizing your solution for you.
|
The end result is your orchid's roots are
surrounded by a constant nutrient mist that the roots can
easily absorb through tiny hairs that will develop. The mist
is extremely oxygenated, and provides o2 and nutrients
directly to your plants roots.
You will notice a
significant increase in orchid plant growth using this high-tech
solution! Orchids will grow larger and faster than in soil
or other hydro methods. |

Orchids in our
Society. An exert from the American Orchid Society:
"According to the United States
Department of Agriculture (USDA) Floriculture Crops Survey
for the year 2004, compiled by the National Agricultural
Statistics Survey, orchids are growing in popularity in the
United States. Currently second in potted flowering plant
sales with a wholesale value of $128 million, orchid sales
increased by five percent this past year. This is the second
highest percentage increase of all the potted flowering
plants in the category. Orchids are second in sales behind
poinsettias, which experienced a one percent increase with
$248 million in sales, and they are significantly ahead of
third-ranked chrysanthemums, which increased eight percent
to $75 million in sales.
There were more than 17.2
million orchids sold in the United States in 2004, an
increase of 13 percent from the previous year.
 |
|
"This reflects the growth
of the flowers popularity. People are increasingly
learning that orchids are not the delicate plants
that they were once perceived to be, but are hardy,
easy-to-maintain plants that have the ability to
bloom all year long," said Lee Cooke, executive
director of the American Orchid Society. |
| Orchids have been included as a
separate entry in the annual USDA Floricul-ture
Crops Summary Report since 1995, when they were
first submitted by the nonprofit AOS. Floriculture
refers to plants in the categories of bedding, cut
cultivated greens, cut flowers, flowering potted
plants and foliage plants. California and Florida
lead the nation and are nearly tied in production,
accounting for 38.1 and 37.6 percent of the
country's orchids, respectively. |
|
 |
Together, these two states
account for more than 75 percent of the country's orchids.
 |
|
"Orchids are the largest group of
flowering plants in nature. There are more than
25,000 identified species, with the total number
probably reaching 30,000, and new species are being
discovered each year," said Dr. Rob Griesbach,
genetic researcher of floral plants for the U.S.
National Arboretum, and past president of the
American Orchid Society (AOS). |
"In addition to that, there are
more than 120,000 hybrids registered with the Royal
Horticultural Society. With so many choices, there's an
orchid for every person's taste."
| Long known as a flower of
distinction, orchids have an undeniable mystique.
Orchids are included as backdrops in many cinema and
television scenes, and are featured in countless
advertisements for everything from clothing and
furniture to architecture and design. Because of
their beauty, relative low cost and heartiness,
orchids are also increasingly becoming a central
aesthetic touch to the home lifestyle. |
|
 |
Exceptional plants are produced
at low cost by nurseries throughout the United States, but
the huge volume of quality plants grown and marketed by
large commercial growers in Florida and California
contributed to most of the sales boom."
We are
happy to make our contribution to the preservation and
cultivation of this beautiful and desirable flower; the
orchid!
